| ~Our Philosophy~ |
| The main purpose of this project is to create an open space of learning and sharing, for men and women of African descent and affiliation. By "descent and affiliation", I am referring to our common "African Souls", as I truly believe that whether a person is African by blood or in spirit, we all come together as one when seen from the perspective of Africanism- a state of mind which comes to life through the Soul, Spirit, and Heart... For Love of Africa. Indeed, in a world where multiculturalism is becoming the norm, I feel that it is essential that we recognize the authenticity of the many men and women who claim as their own a culture they have grown to know, understand, and love... For having lived in a foreign country, or out of the simple pleasures of discovery... Being myself a young Senegalese woman, who has lived in Africa, North America, and Europe, I am and have always been multicultural. Having been exposed from an early age to various cultures, ideas and ways of life, the combination of these influences set the tone for my Spirit, making me a woman with a double consciousness: the first, African, the second, Multicultural. It is my hope that our generation will be the one to fully embrace the greatness of cultural diversity, as people with such rich and diverse backgrounds can now be found across the world... We need to shed light on the beauty of multiculturalism and the wonderful spirits it brings to life... For in Multiculturalism Lies The Future... ~~~~~~~~ AfricanConsciousness.Com: The Concept With regards to the name of this website, my decision to call it "AfricanConsciousness" has a strong purpose. Indeed, the importance of this project lies in my desire to provide us, Africans, with a space that is our own, one dedicated to the promotion of our History, our Culture, and our Identity. Still, both my approach and intentions remain at their core non-exclusive. What I seek to promote here is Africanism of the Soul- with no distinction of race or creed- my goal being to set this project in a universal dimension, opened to all citizens of the world- for those who have and for those who aspire to Awaken their African Consciousness. ... With regards to content, this website will come to life in the form of a monthly "virtual magazine" or "web zine", introducing you to Creative African Souls through series of themes- the focus being on Art & Culture. These series will have two objectives: the first, being for us, To Know to Better Share, the second, being to allow Brilliant African Minds to Be Known... Indeed, we have such a rich cultural identity, one that is constantly evolving and changing, that it is essential that we ourselves learn more about our culture, in order to better share it with the world. From this perspective, every month, AfricanConsciousness.Com will introduce you to Creative African Souls- Artists and Innovators- through interviews, profiles, series of themes and online exhibits- providing them with a platform to show their work to the world, and offering us, the audience, an appealing space to learn and discover. Our "Cultural Awakening" page will present you with news, links to other websites, a selection of artistic events, along with new literary and musical releases, among other wonders... Thus offering you a Portal to Africa. My approach, both in terms of aesthetics and content, will be an invitation to travel across the African continent- North to South, East to West, the Magnificent Center... And the Entire World... For the pleasure of Your Senses... For The Awakening of Your African... Cultural... Consciousness.... ~~~~~~~~ Over the years, I have had the opportunity to talk to many African people, who like me, felt a great need to contribute to Africa's Fight for Recognition. In my heart, I always felt there was a way to participate in this process: so in this project, lies my personal contribution. The creation of this website is, I hope, the beginning of a never-ending story. The story of our love for Africa... A relationship, which will undoubtedly lead us to come together for important social issues in the future. From this perspective, I have created a very special section, purely dedicated to humanitarian causes will attempt to raise awareness on important social issues, appeal to our sensitivity and inspire us to act. ~~~~~~~~ I dedicate this project to one of the Most Beautiful African Souls of This World. A man for whom I have the greatest love and admiration: Leopold Sédar Senghor For The Négritude Cultural Movement... For His Ode to The Black Woman... For Our Country, Senegal In Honor of This Great Man, I say to you: Let Us All Awaken Our African Consciousness! Many Thanks to all of you who believe in this Project... And to My Father- Cherif Bachir Djigo: A Never-Ending Source of Inspiration for me. Anna Djigo ~African Soul from Senegal~ |
